Code green – systems thinking for teen

2023

“Code green – systems thinking for teen” is a project implemented with the financial support of Programme Europe of Sofia Municipality.

The project aims to raise awareness about climate change among the young people in Sofia Municipality and in particular the “Vitosha” region through the use of an innovative educational approach. By the use of systems thinking, the project will contribute to developing an understanding of the interconnectedness and interdependence of different elements of the socio-ecological systems we live in. This leads to the formation of an informed opinion on the issue of climate change and the local specifics and interests in the context of the global challenge; inspiration for looking for novel and unconventional solutions; and building social resilience of the young people that is necessary for the inevitable consequences of climate change.

The project envisages the following activities:

  • Adaptation of a handbook of good practices for presenting climate change through the lens of systems thinking;
  • Nine trainings in the three Secondary Schools in the “Vitosha” region – 2 Secondary School “Acad. Emiliyan Stanev”, 26 SU “Yordan Yovkov” and PGEB “Prof. Dr. Asen Zlatarov”, which with the support of a climate change expert and a facilitator give the students the possibility to conduct exercises and games from the handbook and lead discussion on issues related to climate change;
  • A closing event for presenting the project results.
