Working together for a Europe free from violence

2023

“Working together for a Europe free from violence – ensuring Roma women’s access to justice to assert their right to be free from violence” is a bilateral initiative between Bulgaria (European Institute – EI, Project promoter) and Norway (The Norwegian Ministry of Justice and Public Security – NmoJ, Project Partner). The main aim of the project is to improve access to justice for Roma and Traveller women and girls to assert their right to be free from domestic and gender-based violence. The idea of the project emerged following a mid-term monitoring report received by the Bulgarian Home Affairs Programme in 2021.

A Steering Committee has been established as a part of the project to develop the agenda for a June 2023 International Conference and to clearly outline the expected results and the ToR (Terms of Reference) for a manual on the topic developed by international experts. The Steering Committee consists of representatives from EI, NMoJ, Council of Europe (Gender Equality Division & Roma and Travellers Team), programme and project promoters from the BG-HA and BG-Justice, NGOs and national public bodies.

The International SYNERGY Conference in Bulgaria in June 2023 aims at exchanging views and sharing examples of good practices on the active involvement of Roma and Travellers women in co-operation programmes throughout the EEA/NG programming area.

The manual will serve as a tangible and sustainable outcome of the project. It will be available as a PDF for digital distribution from September on.
